UNYX
The Google Ads modules

Are your results dropping because of a new competitor?

Your performance can degrade without anything changing on your side: one advertiser entering your auctions is enough. The signals exist in Google Ads, but you have to go and find them and compare them over time.

Why this happens

  • A new entrant buys your main keywords and pushes the click price up.
  • A competitor raises their budget, which mechanically reduces your impression share.
  • Seasonality brings occasional advertisers onto your market.
  • Your impression share lost to rank climbs while your budget has not moved.

How to check it yourself

These checks are done directly in your Google Ads account, with no tool at all.

  1. 1Open the auction insights for your main campaigns, over two comparable periods.
  2. 2Look at the overlap rate: it tells you who you are actually competing with for the click.
  3. 3Track lost impression share, separating what is lost to budget from what is lost to rank.
  4. 4Note the advertisers absent last month: they often explain the rise in cost.
What UNYX does

UNYX tracks these indicators week after week and reports notable moves: a new entrant, rising overlap, impression share falling at constant budget.

Frequently asked questions

Should you raise bids when a competitor arrives?

Not as a reflex. Outbidding a new entrant can cost a lot for a marginal gain in position. It is often more profitable to work on ad relevance and on the landing page.

Can you find out who those competitors are?

Google gives the domain names of the advertisers present in your auctions, with relative indicators. It gives neither their budget nor their keywords.
