Google Ads offers its own recommendations. They are built to make you spend more, not to defend your margin. Management tools exist for that reason: to apply your rules, every day, across the whole account.
An account left on automatic settings drifts slowly. Bids rise on keywords that no longer convert, one ad group takes a growing share of the budget unnoticed, and the platform’s recommendations apply themselves if nobody declines them. The cost never appears all at once: it shows up six months later, in a cost per customer that has doubled without a single decision being made.
Does it apply, or only suggest?
Some tools write into the account, others only raise alerts. Both are defensible. What matters is knowing which one you are buying: a tool that acts without approval asks for a trust few companies grant in year one.
How many accounts, and run by whom?
A single advertiser with one account does not need what an agency running forty needs. Multi-account tools cost more and are justified by time saved in bulk, not by better analysis.
Does it cover your campaign types?
Many tools are excellent on search campaigns and far weaker on Shopping and Performance Max. If most of your budget sits in those formats, check this before anything else.
Who will act on what it reports?
That is the real test. A management tool produces dozens of recommendations every week. With nobody to sort and decide, it becomes one more inbox, and the subscription buys nothing.

DiscoverDo these tools replace a campaign manager?
No. They speed up analysis and prevent oversights, but they do not set your strategy, do not know your margins and do not call your customers. A management tool nobody owns produces nothing.
Are the Google Ads recommendations enough?
They are worth reading, rarely worth applying as they are. They structurally push towards more volume and more spend. A third-party tool has the advantage of reasoning on your goals rather than the platform’s.
Is a tool needed on a small account?
Below roughly a thousand euros a month, the subscription often weighs more than the gain. On a small account, a serious human review every two weeks usually beats an unused tool.
